Derek Alan Jones - attorney profile

Derek grew up near Morganton, North Carolina. Some of his relatives continue to live in that area today. Derek graduated with distinction from both the Charlotte School of Law (2013) and the University of North Carolina at Charlotte (2010 - Finance and Marketing). Derek played two years of junior college basketball (2005-2007) as a starting shooting guard at Catawba Valley Community College for the back-to-back conference champions in Hickory, North Carolina. Derek was a distinguished academic All-American in the sport of basketball in the NJCAA.

Derek moved to Hendersonville in 2013 and started practicing law for the firm Blanchard, Blackwell and Ramsey. Soon thereafter, the practice became the Jason Blackwell Law Firm. In 2017, Derek, along with attorneys Jason Blackwell and James Marshall merged with another firm to become Carr, Blackwell, & Associates, PC. He remained with Carr, Blackwell until 2021 when he started his own law practice: Derek Jones Law Office, PLLC.

Derek has developed experience in a wide-range of practice areas including: criminal defense, family law, personal injury, general civil litigation, document drafting and review, business planning, and estate planning. For the past several years, Derek has focused his practice areas on: personal injury, civil litigation, business planning, and estate planning.

As a trial attorney, Derek has continued to develop effective trial and pre-trial skills since 2013 with complex cases. Derek also enjoys helping clients develop and review business dealings, limit risk liability, and resolve matters of personal injury. 

Derek has been licensed to practice law in the State of North Carolina since 2013. He has made appearances in North Carolina State Trial Courts and Court of Appeals, the North Carolina Industrial Commission, and the EEOC.

Derek attends Church at Tabernacle of Praise in Fletcher, North Carolina, where he leads worship. He enjoys spending time with his wife and daughter, playing golf and basketball, and playing various musical instruments.
